Peripheral Vestibular Function in Patients with Fibromyalgia

Background: Fibromyalgia (FM) is a non-inflammatory musculoskeletal chronic syndrome, whose etiology unknown, characterized by diffuse pain, many patients with FM were reported to have dizziness which attributed hypotension and the autonomic nervous system (ANS) dysfunction. Aim: To improve management of fibromyalgia having dizziness. Objective: assess peripheral vestibular functions in fibromyalgia. Subjects Methods: After obtaining approval from Ethics Committee Suez Canal University Hospital (registration number:3646) written informed patient consent, Cross-sectional study was conducted at hospital June 2018 December 2019 Audio-Vestibular Clinic E.N.T department, including 30 female subjects age ranged 22 50 years divided into Study group that comprised diagnosed Control rather healthy individuals. The assessment done using pure tone audiometry, Bedside tests, video-nystagmography (VNG). Results: There no statistically significant difference between both groups regarding results bedside examinations VNG as caloric test (p-value = 0.6) however, there trend towards positive an increase weakness compared control group. Conclusion: Fibromyalgia unlikely be cause dysfunction, so testing not routinely recommended for such patients.
